Anna Hazare day-long fast against corruption

New Delhi is witnessing a comedy drama enacted by sudden reformer Anna Hazare, Yoga company chairman Ramdev. The BJP, RSS and Sangh parivar are excited. The television channels have good business hours.

"The government action at Ramlila ground was an attack on democracy," Anna Hazare said at Maharashtra Sadan before proceeding to the fast site to mark his protest. Rajghat is the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

A veteran Indian activist has started a day-long fast against corruption and the government's violent crackdown on a similar peaceful protest, tapping into widespread anger at prime minister Manmohan Singh's failure to curb graft.

"They are putting roadblocks on the path of the Lokpal Bill," he said, and charged the government with trying to defame his associates, including Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal.
